The Answer for our Nation
September 11, 2012
As we remember the tragic events of eleven years ago, for me, I believe that day could have been avoided. That awful day could have been averted not by better intelligence or bigger armies, etc., but by a nation that would be willing to fall on its knees and repent.
The answer for our national ills (social, economic, security, etc.) lies in the following Scripture passage: “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14). This is what our country needs to do: repent.
Hopefully, it is not too late for a national revival or 21st Century Great Awakening. Prayer and fasting are ways to bring about this much needed spiritual renewal. My prayer is that it would begin today.

I’m all for repentance, but this view seems to assume that God has made a covenant with the USA. I see no basis for that. Ancient Israel was the only nation to ever enjoy the unique favor of God. It was His covenant with the nation of Israel that formed the basis for the promise in the quoted verse from Chronicles. I too pray for revival — worldwide revival. But I see no reason to believe that God uniquely favors America over any other nation.
Hi Chaplain,
It is always good to hear from you. I am thinking of the 2 Chronicles verse (“if my people”) not as Americans, per se, but as “Christians” living in America. There are many people, who call themselves “Christian” in this country, who aren’t living the life. I am looking at the verse in this sense. If the “Christians” in America will humble themselves and pray…….”
Bless you,
Scott
Thank you, brother, for making that clear.
