Hope and Change
September 5, 2012
We have heard the words “hope and change” used frequently in trite and meaningless political slogans used to manipulate voting bases in the last few years. And we have heard this phrase used by charlatans to describe a utopian economic structure. But for the Christian, “hope and change” takes on a whole different meaning.
The Bible says, “while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13). This is the only hope that the world has, and it is certainly not found in a political party, ideology or leader. Jesus is our only hope!
God’s Word also states, “Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:51-52). When the Lord raptures the saints away, that will be the greatest change the earth has ever seen. That is the change that I am looking forward to, and also the change that I have my hope in.
