Political vs. Spiritual
June 11, 2012
This month, marks the 1st year anniversary of this blog. And although most of the writing done, in these twelve months, has been Biblical, spiritual or theological in nature, as of late, the blog has become increasingly political. And for that, I am sorry.
Yes, our nation and our world are in “perilous times,” to quote the Lord. But these problems will not be solved by political means. We are in desperate need that only spiritual remedies can fix.
Too many people, even within Christian circles, believe that mankind is going to solve his own problems through political sources. This cannot be farther from the truth. These folks also believe that Christ will come only after mankind has brought about a thousand years of peace (Postmillennialism). They think that humanity can bring about a global utopian society and world peace without God’s hand.
The truth is that the person in the White House, whether Democrat or Republican, will not be able to solve our problems. Only Jesus can. If man could save himself, we wouldn’t need Jesus. And although we do want to vote for the person who has the best values, if we have our hope, faith and trust in a political party, ideology or a man, we will be sorely disappointed.
Here’s the good news. One day the political and the spiritual will converge. The Bible says, “On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south” (Zechariah 14:4). Jesus will come again as “King of Kings and Lord of Lords.” The Scriptures also state, regarding Jesus, “…..and the government will be on his shoulders…..” (Isaiah 9:6). That is when true righteousness and justice will reign. That is where my hope is placed.
