Letter to T.D. Jakes
May 10, 2012
I just sent this letter (email) to the T.D. Jakes ministry this morning:
Dear Pastor Jakes,
Four years ago, I was deeply disappointed that you could support a Presidential candidate who not only was pro-abortion, but who had voted, as an Illinois State Senator, against “born-alive” legislation. This law would have protected the life of an infant who had been born in a “botched abortion.”
Basically, I stopped watching your programs on TBN and other Christian networks here in the Orlando, FL area. Previously, I had been inspired by your sermons and teaching.
Now that our current leader has come out in favor of same-sex marriage, are you going to publicly support him again? Or like the President, are you “evolving” on this issue? Most African-American Evangelicals are against this unbiblical stance. I would hope that you would “take a stand” and come out against this perversion of the truth.
Sincerely,
Scott Sholar
Winter Garden, Florida
P.S. “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15, NIV).
I agree 100% with your letter. We live in extraordinary times. When we have those in ministry that would rather have the praise of men, than the approval of God, it’s a sad state of affairs.
Matthew 7:20 Wherefore ye shall know them by their fruits.
Hopefully, this pastor will distance himself from the current administration.
I pray that he does. Take a look at this:

Have you seen this video at the link before?
That was quite an eye-opening video.
I thought the same thing, very eye opening. I had seen a couple of the clips in the past, however when all the pro Muslim comments are played one after another, it compels one to wonder exactly what does Obama believe.
Amen and amen!
Bless you.
Great letter! Isn’t it amazing the number or Pastors willing to follow the things of the world and become false teachers.
Maybe this particular minister will “see the error of his ways” and make the Bible and not politics the most important thing.
Yes they have. I’m reminded of the priest’s in Israel and Judah that the prophets cried out against when I see the stances they take sometimes.
We can pray…I use to watch T.D. Jakes too, but have watched so many pastors go away from the Truth that is stuns me when someone like Jakes choses to do the same.
Amen. Maybe it is also
time to distance ourselves from some of these “establishment” but fallen pastors.
Sadly, politics has crept into the church, and it is time for the truth to be proclaimed no matter what the political “fallout” may be.
Well spoken Scott! it is time for us to call out hypocritical stances that our self proclaimed leaders take.
Yes, unfortunately, our “spiritual” leaders have allowed themselves to be compromised.
Very well said my brother! I cannot understand for the life of me how “Christians” can support this President or anyone who supports the positions that he and the people of his ilk does. Great job!
We are living in the end times, and it is time that some of our spiritual leaders start acting like it.
Wow, your first issue that you spoke of regarding the abortion either got by me or I’ve completely forgotten. I’m very disappointed that our President has decided to agree with same sex marriage. However, I’m happy that you had an issue and instead of nursing, cursing and rehearsing it; you wrote a letter to whom you have issue with. Good for you.
It will be interesting to see where all of the players fall on these issues. Pray for our leaders… both spiritual and political. I’m reminded of our Lord’s words, “Watch for the fruit that’s growing, then you’ll know!” Thanks for taking a stand for the truth, good friend. God bless.
Yes, I’m praying that our leaders will be saved.
Right on! Though I would love to see T.D. Jakes denounce many immoral issues that the President stands for, I am not confident that he will. Looks like Jakes would prefer to put politics above Scripture.
I am still waiting for his ministry to respond to my letter. So far, nothing.
100% agreement!!!
I have two questions:
1. If Bishop Jakes comes out against (does not support or endorse) the current administration for their advocacy of same-sex marriage, do you suggest he support Mitt Romney (not of the faith and clearly not representative of or receptive to most Americans, let alone the African American community)?
2. I would say there isn’t anyone running for President that walks the complete line of Christian faith. That said, would you recommend the faithful just not vote and let the unfaithful decide our country’s leader?
You state that Mitt Romney (who was not my first choice) is, “not of the faith.” But are you suggesting that our current leader, who is pro-abortion and pro-homosexual marriage, is “of the faith?” Not hardly. Anyone who is for the killing of the innocents and also is for the legalization of perversion is definitely “not of the faith.” The Bible is very clear on both of those issues.
Addressing your second issue, the “faithful” (and I’m not sure we have the same definition of that term) should vote for the person who comes the closest to being a Godly leader. The current administration is about as far from adhering to Christian principles as one could be. I would not want to be in the shoes of the current resident of the White House when the time comes to give an account before God.
Thirdly, the African-American community has been deeply disturbed over the same-sex marriage issue. They will not turn out in the numbers that they did in 2008. This “change” has been too much for them to bear.
I do pray, however, for our country’s leader. I hope that he will allow God to come into his heart and change him for the better.
I am not suggesting that our current leader is of the faith. He may have been saved but he’s not walking in the faith. As for the AA community, yes we’re against same-sex marriage but that’s far from the most important issue for us. Middle-class jobs (in this country) and affordable healthcare are. We can agree that Romney is not our first choice…my question was who would you recommend he endorse? Without specifying, I would have assumed you meant Romney and I don’t see that as being any better considering Massachusetts legalized same-sex marriages while Romney was governor.
I think that, indeed, moral issues will come to the forefront in this election. We, as a nation, are hurting economically because we have turned away from God. We are the recipients of what happens when a nation loses its way spiritually. It hurts us in all categories of life. Until we decide to make our way back to holiness and godliness, we will continue to decline in all areas as a nation.
If I may chime in. The issue of abortion is a huge problem in the African American Community. In fact I believe that the left is perpetuating genocide upon the African American Community through abortion. I’m not sure if you are aware but since 1973 13 million black babies have been aborted.
Also as far as affordable health care goes what will you do when a government appointed person tells you that your black grandmother will not get the life saving surgery she needs because it’s too expensive?
Can you trust a man who voted to let a child starve to death with your families health? Do you trust the left who have murdered 13 million black children?
T.D.Jakes did; and what have we gotten? 15% unemployment in the black community. Almost twice that of all other races. As far as supporting Mitt Romney not my (first choice either) I would rather see him stand up for righteousness and choose a man who opposes what God opposes instead of a man who embraces evil.
Isa 5:20
20 Woe to those who call evil good
and good evil,
who substitute darkness for light
and light for darkness,
who substitute bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter.
I agree with Scott T.D.Jakes needs to come out and denounce this president and his support of gay marriage.
Great word! Thank you, Dan.
If you are interested in continuing the discussion we can do so via email…I hate never-ending blog comments. My point is neither of the two major candidates stand on holy ground on the issue of gay marriage (see my earlier post about Massachusetts).
If you are just saying Obama is a bad President, you’ll get no argument from me. As for standing on the side of righteousness, neither one of them fit that bill. The left is incredibly dangerous for the African-American community..again, completely agreed. All that being said, the right backed the wrong horse in the primaries because as much as I think Obama is no good for this country as President, I trust Romney’s faith, values, ethics, leadership, and vision even less.
What I’m about to say should end the discussion of “who is the worst candidate:” Romney or the other guy. The other guy believes in “totalitarianism.” This is “absolute control by the state or a governing branch of a highly centralized institution” (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/totalitarianism).
Stalin, Castro, Mao and other communist leaders killed people by the millions who did not go along with their policies. I, for one, will not vote for someone who believes that lining people up and executing them is okay.
